A non-partisan advocate on behalf of all the people. The office of the Attorney General is about doing what’s right on behalf of the all people.
Enforce Law and Order. The Attorney General is the state’s chief legal officer and affirms to uphold the Illinois Constitution. Section 15 of Article V
Protect your constitutionally protected rights. Equal protection under the law means that you are guaranteed certain legal protections, no matter your race, gender, faith, physical ability, or orientation. The Attorney General serves a crucial role in protecting people whose rights have been infringed or deprived.
Honor the Peace Treaties for Natives. Illinois has been involved in several treaties with Native American tribes, including the Treaty of Chicago in 1833 and the Treaty of Chicago in 1821. I will honor and enforce those treaties.
Ensure Religious Freedom. Religious Freedom is an inherent, fundamental, and inalienable right secured by Article I, Section 3 of the Constitution of the State of Illinois.
Accountability for Violating Oaths. Article XIII, Section 3 requires each prospective holder of a State office or other State position created by the Illinois Constitution, that they affirm they will faithfully discharge their duties of the office they are elected to. Penalties for violating an oath or affirmation of office in Illinois can include civil penalties, imprisonment, fines, and removal from office.
Protect the Rights of the Current and Formerly Incarcerated. The Illinois Attorney General’s Office protects the rights of Illinoisans, including those who are incarcerated or formerly incarcerated. By removing collateral consequences also known as permanent punishments, thus causing Illinoisans to pay more in unnecessary taxes.
Protect Individual and Parental Rights. Parents have a fundamental right to direct their children’s education, care, and upbringing.
