As a community activist, current member of the National Lawyers Guild, and former Vice President of the DuPage National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Andy had dedicated his life to being an advocate for the people.
Andy’s career in advocacy began in adversity. Starting out as a high school dropout who wound up in prison, Andy found his passion with the law and being acquitted in a bench trial. While being incarcerated, Andy became a jailhouse lawyer and assisted other fellow prisoners.
After fighting a wrongful foreclosure, he went to Lewis University and obtained a bachelors degree in Paralegal Studies. Andy went on to become the chairman of housing at the DuPage NAACP and the 3rd Vice President. He was hired by one of his professors to work for his firm in Elmhurst, where Andy worked primarily on foreclosure defense. He left to start a Freelance Paralegal Firm started and advocacy group called Consumer Action Resource Group to help people who were being abused by corporations.
In the community, Andy built a reputation for trustworthy, respectable, and bipartisan. He worked with the activists, law enforcement, and government often times finding himself in the middle of hostile situations.
Andy is running for Attorney General because the core purpose of the job is to be an advocate for the people. It’s a call that Andy has answered. He has dedicated himself to be a representative of all people. He knows the Attorney General must be a non-partisan, independent voice for the people of Illinois, and that comes naturally for Andy.
Andy is married to his wife, Vonita, and they have five children, and three grandchildren. Andy is the Trustee of AWJ Ministries and attends Epic church in Chicago.
